The photo was taken at Bowie's home in Haddon Hall just at the edge of London. This was the beginning of David’s Ziggy Stardust and Mick capturing his character. Photographs from this session later appeared on the covers of albums and singles reissued in 1972-73 after David’s fame grew. It is also part of the session used for the new Moonage Day film Poster.

Mick Rock said of Bowie, "He doesn't sweat. He rocks and swings through a whole ninety-minute set without a glimmer. Neither is he just a tease, as we all soon discover. He might pout, tilt his head coquettishly, giggle, but he comes up with the goods."
